The brief:
Access from a headland down a steep (1:2) cliff to the beach 20m below. Track to be safe and easy for people of all abilities. Minimise environmental impact especially around large Pohutukawa Trees.
Our solution:
We spent a couple of days exploring the cliff face looking for existing ledges which could be used for the track. Proposed a route with 120m of gently sloping path zig-zagging to beach, with one major set of steps under branches of large Pohutukawa.
How it worked:
Soil surface and use of natural materials helps track blend in to environment. Wooden steps and handrail a feature. Gentle slope makes for comfortable walking.
